The camera never lies… Or does it !?!?…

Boats

Down By The River

IMG_7791_s

Just occasionally, it is actually worth getting up early in the morning…

Up The Creek

A shot from the end of a rather pleasant day out with friends… although one of them got in to all sorts of mischief.  More on that in another post. Spent the day investigating some unused churches around the area, and ended up here for a few rather nice landscapey type shots… Not entirely sure about this one, as I do hate the sun being burnt out like that, but I loved the light it was casting across the scene… Note to self, must get myself a graduated ND filter mefinks.. along with all the other things I want…

Feeling Reflective

Spent rather a pleasant afternoon strolling along the river with a good friend, and her new Canon 5D Mk II (no fair… lol)… Spent most of the time with one eye open for any potential photo opportunities, and the other eye on her… waiting for her to fall in, so that I could do the decent thing that any friend would do… and grab her camera before it got wet… Well, if she were washed away, I’m sure she’d be only too happy knowing that her camera was going to be looked after !!… Right ??… :D

Karma’s August Rainbow Challenge

Well here are my entries for the Rainbow Challenge… Fortunately due to a fairly pleasant summer most of the shots are all entirely new and “kinda” summery… but I had to throw a couple of old favourites in there too..

Red – and I have to confess to struggling to find any decent red shots, so you’ll have to make do with a nice little red Ferrari Dino 246 from our summer hols… Not mine unfortunately, but it was in Beaulieu Motor Museum that we visited during our summer hols, so it counts… Oh, and one of those red things from the garden too (not my garden though)…

Ahoy There !!

This is HMS Warrior berthed in Portsmouth Harbour at sunset… Actually it’s been there a lot longer than that. When HMS Warrior was launched back in 1860, she was the largest, fastest and most powerful warship in the world… and was Britain’s first iron hulled and armoured warship. The pride of Queen Victoria’s fleet, she was both steam and sail powered… Fully restored in 1979, at a cost of £8 million, she’s now essentially a living museum, and is pretty impressive… Although maybe not quite so impressive as HMS Victory a few hundred metres away… Some pics of that some time soon…

Here’s the ships wheels on the upper deck, and judging by the size of them I’m guessing it must have taken some steering under rough conditions…

Btw, is it JUST me, or does anyone else hate it when people dress their kids in identical clothes !?!?… I’m sure my wife / kids did this JUST to annoy the heck out of me !!… lol.. All I can say is that I’m glad they’re not twins… or someone would be in serious trouble… ;)

Finally, here’s a view below decks on the main gun deck, showing one of the twenty two 68 pound guns, and a few itty bitty shells…

Time To Reflect

Yaaaawn…

Well I am the first to admit that dragging myself out of bed early in the morning doesn’t usually feature too high on my list of “things I WANT to do today”… Fortunately though it does appear on my list of “things I HAVE to do today” when it comes to getting to work…

And sometimes… just occasionally…  it’s made all that bit more worthwhile when you crawl out of bed to something like this…

Rockin’ It…

Now this is what I call a rock pool… lol… I’m assuming it used to be more of an outdoor seaside  swimming pool, but it’s very much given over to all sorts of sea-life now…

Still on a bit of a black and white kick here, but for those who prefer your kicks in glorious technicolour, then here’s an extra splash or two…

And I’m not mean or anything, but I was SOOOO willing my daughter to fall in head first…  What a shot that would have made… lol… Even me shouting BOO !!! didn’t have the desired effect though… ;)

Summer Skies

Yup, even those classic British Summer clouds can’t ruin a nice day at the beach… Who needs sunshine to build a sandcastle… :)

Original Colour Version

Mind you, I have always been a bit of a cloud freak… lol…

A Harty (Ferry) Rant

WELL… I now officially dislike people…. or let me clarify… I dislike people involved with the  jobcentre where I have just had to go and “sign on” for the first time ever in 25 years of my working career so far… just so that they can pay me £64 a week, as long as I can prove in triplicate that I am actually genuinely looking for a job, and not just playing the system…. cos IF I’m just playing the system, then apparently it seems I can claim lots more, and don’t really have to prove I’m actively seeking employment…..

I tell ya though… I had previously wondered why they had 2 huge security guards walking around in there…. Now I know…. I’m normally a very placid easy-going sort of person, but I very nearly lost it today…. and I took about 6 months worth of rubber off my tyres driving home….

I had 2 appointments… One at 2pm, to “prove” I’m looking for work, and one at 2:35, just to get a form so I can claim on my mortgage insurance (yeah right)….. Well the 2pm kinda annoyed me, as I’d got a complete list of jobs I’d applied for…. through “recruitment agencies”….. They wanted “employer” details…. which I couldn’t give them, as you don’t GET that information through agencies…. Surely they should KNOW that…. Anyways, I gave her the first 2 jobs that I’d applied for, from my long list, and she said “That’s enough… I don’t need any more”….. WHAT !!!….

Then I was told that if the 2:35 appointment was free earlier, then I’d be able to go straight to that…. Apparently it wasn’t… Apparently it was taken right up to 2:30…. It was 2:05 at this point…. So I left and came back at about 2:20…. Sat in the waiting area opposite some desks where the job centre peeps were merrily sitting there doing nothing….. Sat there for 15 minutes across the room from some woman sat at her desk…. Then at 2:35 precisely SHE looks up and says “Mr Stevenson”…… “I couldn’t believe it”…. I’d been sitting there 15 minutes, and had been told she was BUSY with another person right up to 2:30…. and she’s sitting right in front of me … doin’ nowt…

Then it got worse…. She was the most snotty arrogant conceited individual I’ve met in a looooong time… Sat there looking down her nose at me like I was a piece of #@!$ on her shoe…. So I politely explained why I was there…. And she said “Have you got your insurance policy”….. Ummmmmm NO…. I’m here to get a form from YOU, so that I can claim FROM my insurance company…. Why the heck do THEY need MY insurance policy details…. They’re not paying me…. They just need to give me a form that says I am claiming benefit…. That’s IT….

She said…. “I need your policy, or I can’t give you a form”…. I was still polite, and said… “Well it would have been helpful if someone had told me that when I made the appointment”…. She said “Well you’ll need to book another appointment, and this time don’t forget to bring your policy with you”…. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…. So I politely said… “Ok, can I book another appointment then please”….

She said…. “You have to phone us up and book it”….. WHAT… You have GOT to be kidding me !!!!….. I’m sitting here right in front of you…. but oh no… She’s not allowed to book appointments… I HAVE to phone up to do that…. So I had to come home… and phone THEM… Where I’d JUST been…. to make another appointment !!!….

Ooooooooh…. I tell ya…… NOT a happy bunny….. They make this sooooooo degrading to those of us who’ve worked ALL our lives, just to support the….. Ooooooh…. Don’t get me started on that… That’s another beef of mine completely….

Does anybody know anyone who requires a full time photographer ??… Now there’s a dream job… :)

SOOOOO… To mellow things down, here’s Today’s Sounds from one of my all time favourite albums…

Up The Creek..

Pretty much where I am at the moment… lacking the required paddle… lol…

Still… Hopefully if nothing else we’ll get a tiny bit more weather like this, as opposed to the grey mush that seems to have returned in abundance…

Does My Bum Look Big In This

This was a shot that initially I was seriously unhappy with, but had an inkling that it might work in black and white… So after messing with a fair number of conversions I settled on this version, but still wasn’t truly happy, as the background (although required to balance the shot) was kinda distracting…. Hence the minor zoom blur….. Hopefully it worked…

Funny story though… After trudging around in the harbour for a while, and avoiding the muddiest parts…. we left the boats alone and ventured back along the sea wall for a coffee or two…. but were distracted by a childs screams…. When we looked back down in to the harbour (just behind this boat) there was a little kid laying face first in the stodgy mud…. covered head to toe in it…. with his mum there slowly peeling him out of the goo…. It was funny…. but we didn’t laugh…. much…. Well ok, maybe a tiny bit… but at least we didn’t point and laugh…. ;)

I’d NOT have wanted to be in that car during that journey home…. lol…
