Yup, even those classic British Summer clouds can’t ruin a nice day at the beach… Who needs sunshine to build a sandcastle… :)
Original Colour Version
Mind you, I have always been a bit of a cloud freak… lol…

Wow! Viewpoint from a pier stairs or what?
Very very impressive. I presume you shoot in RAW and process afterwards, yeah? I wish I had a camera that shot in RAW, but sadly at the moment can’t afford it. My camera is very very old and needs updating, too… Sad!

Yeah this was shot from the pier that surrounds the tiny harbour in Broadstairs in Kent… You’re presumption is right too.. I always shoot in RAW, as it truly does allow so much extra post processing, that simply isn’t possible with jpg… I couldn’t recommend it enough, but sadly finances constrain us all from what we really want…

This is a really cool shot. I liked how you used the stairs as foreground. I like the clouds too it just adds more drama to the scene. And, I have always been somewhat of a drama queen..lol.

LOL… I have a feeling I may have over-egg’d the processing a smidge, but you’re right, with clouds like that you have to bring on the drama.. Thanks Consuelo… :)

This is lovely – perfect skies for black and white.

Thank you so much… and thanks for your comment and visit… :)

Great composition, and the enhanced black and white made a drastic difference in the appeal of the photo. Nice work.

Many thanks… Some shots just demand black and white eh…

Really, REALLY cool perspective! The b/w processing simply makes it sing! It brings out all the lovely textures and eliminates any distracting elements. Beautiful!
(oh, and the figures look like ants… ;-) )
June 14, 2010 at 3:44 pm
Haha… Ants eh !!… The day they follow me to the beach will be a day they rue… lol… Thanks Tracy… Yeah it didn’t really work too well in colour, but I HAD to do something with it because of those clouds… :)

I tend to be addicted to colour but sometimes photos are *so* much better for the simplicity of black and white. This is great – that sky is so dramatic and those steps are just calling me to clamber down to he beach.

On the whole I tend to stick with colour too, but occasionally I’ll go through one of those black and white phase, and now is one of them… lol.. Thanks AC…

Blue sky is totally over rated. The dramatic clouds here rock :) I love it!! Great lead in. I’m so torn between the black and white and the color. Both have something I like :)
June 14, 2010 at 4:44 pm
Well you above everyone know how much I hate blue skies… lol.. Give me fruffy clouds any day of the week… Have to say though that I was totally unimpressed with the colour version myself… Thanks MrsA..

Cool shot – obviously literally! Love the tones and the awesome clouds. Another Great British Summer in sight…sigh!

Cheers Brian… Yeah it’s not looking too summery yet is it… I think the week or two we had recently was probably it.. lol..

Do these clouds have something to do with your personality, Brian? LOL! I was wondering if perhaps it was a cloudy brain that comes up with some of your comments! ;-)
While I nearly always prefer the color version of any shot (I’ve gotten into many discussions about this with other photo-bloggers), I must admit that your B&W really did the trick with this.
June 15, 2010 at 2:42 am
Lol.. Thanks Karma.. And trust me, you do NOT want to get in to any discussions about how my mind works either… or doesn’t as the case may sometimes be… ;)

The B&W image looks so cool Brian!! It has more punch compared to the colour version. The B&W version is very dramatic and nice use of the leading lines too.

I come from Broadstairs and am into photography, so this is a double pleasure to view!

Many thanks… It sure does make quite the photographic subject when the weather is kind enough…
