Back to School
That’s exactly where I’ve been this weekend, but not to learn anything I hasten to add… Well that’s a lie actually, as I did learn that garlic hummus and celery is rather nice as a tasty snack, all thanks to my urban companion… lol…
This particular school is an old abandoned girls school… and for a bit of urban exploring they don’t come much better…
It was originally built as the privately owned Lillesdon Estate Mansion, built in 1855, and became a public girls school just after the 1st world war… It eventually closed around 1999, and has been abandoned ever since… and I believe is now owned by a property developer who is intending to convert the building in to private apartments at some point in the future…. The place is amazing though, with so many rooms, and is definitely going to warrant a return visit… or two…. or maybe even three…
There will be a few more shots appearing here soon, as soon as I can decide which ones to post… but for now here’s a taster of the exterior… :)

No fair that you have all these amazing abandoned places to visit and photograph!! This place just screams for a slow shutter shot of a little girl all dressed in the uniform and twirling through the room….

I can hardly wait to see more. I’m amazed that you can get into these places. Where I live, abandoned buildings are covered with bars and sheets of tin. Very difficult to get inside without some serious tools. Nice work so far!

Let me just say that garlic hummus is delish, AND you have the best urbex places and I’m so jealous. What a fantastic place to explore. Love the scenes…especially that peeling wallpaper!

You’re right… it is rather nice, and lasts well in to the next day too… much to the disgust of others… lol… I can’t believe you’ve not found any urbex places yourself yet…

Never would have guessed that this used to be a school. It’s a beautiful building and it’s nice to know that the owner will remodel/restore it and not tear it down to make room for something a lot more modern.

Well it was originally built as a private mansion house, but isn’t unusual of buildings or dedicated schools from this era… It is good to know it may be restored though… Thanks Michaela…

Thank-you for the trip over to my site, today. Your photography is awesome! I’m going to comment on that drawing of the bird, above, in a minute! I think this building IS a true find. The building is hauntingly wonderful and the composition in the blue room with the play of light is so cool.
