The camera never lies… Or does it !?!?…

A Happy Accident

High Five.. Anyone !?!?… :)

Well ok, maybe (fortunately) not entirely an accident… but certainly unplanned… or at least not entirely planned… :)

SO… Voting from the previous “fluffy” post was almost unanimous in favour of something decidedly less fluffy / altogether more macabre… Well don’t say you weren’t given the choice… ;)

You’ll be glad to know though, that no harm befell anyone or anything during the making of this shot… that is unless you include the demon garden hose… There’s a lesson to be learned there, and that is when taking photographs in the garden, never assume the garden hose is fully conversant with rule 7.14, which is “Active garden hoses, must at all times during their duties of water dispensing, ensure they always look away from the camera”

This shot is actually a whole lot more innocent than it may first appear, and my original idea was entirely different to the slant my post-processing took… I originally intended to take a shot with just plain old water running down my hand and off my fingertips, and I was then going to spin it through 180°, turn it black and white… and hope it looked kinda unique, with the water flowing upwards… Well, it didn’t… lol…

Hence after my initial disappointment, it then took on a more disturbing twist… Trust me though, this WAS that shot with plain old boring garden hose water, which has then been entirely photoshopped to look like… well.. not like water… ;)

So there ya go… from fluffy critters, to golden sunsets, to flowers, to freaky vegetables, to abandoned and spooky buildings, to the licking cows… and now something altogether less wholesome… :)

Cool job of processing! My mind tends toward the more mundane, I never would have considered this kind of processing on my own.

    July 6, 2011 at 5:54 pm

    • Well processing it this way was never planned… it just kinda happened.. lol.. Thanks Ted..

  3. Eeeeeeeek! I always suspected you were actually some sort of zombie underneath it all…. jk!

    July 6, 2011 at 6:34 pm

    • Ummmmm… Oooops… Well I keep it hidden well.. most of the time… ;)

      July 6, 2011 at 7:09 pm

  4. Cool! FINALLY, you reveal your TRUE self here, Bri! (I always suspected you were part zombie…) ;-)

    July 6, 2011 at 7:39 pm

    • Ummmm… Shhhhhh… Keep it under your hat, as I don’t think anyone else has noticed (apart from Karen)… ;)

  5. This is a great shot! I could tell it wasn’t REALLY blood, although that may have been a little more difficult to tell if you had cropped the palm of your hand out.
Definitely NOT a fluffy shot, but I like it a lot!

    July 6, 2011 at 9:33 pm

    • You want me to cut the palm of my hand out TOO ??… Now that WOULD have been gruesome… lol… Thanks Michaela, glad you like the not so fluffy… :D

  7. Wowza! This would make an amazing movie poster, FS!
You’ve got some serious processing B-R-A-I-N-S, er, I mean, skills, sir! ;)

    July 6, 2011 at 10:52 pm

    • Why thank you very much indeed SIG… Extremely kind of you to say… :)

      July 10, 2011 at 9:08 pm

  8. Creepy, but neat processing FS :)

  9. wooahla! that’s dramatic! I have been long observing your work, Brian, and this one is definitely a sparkling exception among things you have done. This actually looks cruel :D The red fluid, which is obviously associated with blood, makes this photo very “involving”, especially that the background is black. They fill each other very harmoniously… no, I am not kidding, just have view quick flashbacks from Frankenstein :-)

    • oh, forgot to say.
I definitely give a high five to your wonderful bloody mummy… mmmm… should be cool :D

      • Thank you so very much Irina… I’m real pleased you find it so involving… That’s quite the compliment… :D

I love it! Funny how the water/blood on your palm actually looks quite viscous and could also be paint. I love the patterns of the droplets trailing from the fingers and I can see two of them forming a little heart (I’m straight back to fluffy bunnies and kittens whiskers). :)

    July 7, 2011 at 9:19 am

    • LOL… Thanks Jayne… I can’t believe you found hearts in this shot… haha… but I guess it’s a bit more appealing than blood and gore… ;)

  11. hi there my friend! Wow, you’ve posted a lot of pics while i was away. I love this hand shot. Very unique, and that’s hard to accomplish in photography these days. You’re such a talent!!

    Cheers.

Hi five?!! Um… NO WAY. Gross. Yuck. It’d be like high fiving a zombie, and that’s just downright dangerous! It’s really crazy how you made that water look like blood. It almost looks thick. Very clever and very cool Funky. I love it and am soooo gld you posted it.

    • WHA !!… You’re rebuffing my high five !!… Pah I say… Real glad you likes though MrsA.. :)

I must say, I think it’s really cool :) I was a bit surprised that I liked it, as I don’t even dare to watch 16+ movies (while I’m 18 years old :)), but, I don’t know… In a way this is such an interesting photo, and I keep on looking at all the details!

    July 7, 2011 at 3:42 pm

    • LOL… Thanks RR… I’m actually surprised “anyone” liked it if I’m honest… as it’s not exactly your run of the mill fluffy kitten…

      July 10, 2011 at 8:52 pm

  14. Very cool concept B…even the initial one that didn’t turn out as you planned led you to this highly interesting and very creative combination of photography and processing. You’ve gots mad skills ;0)

But I dare say I’d run away screaming were I to see THAT hand attached to a matching body coming toward me. LOL

Really glad you had fun with this and I like!!! ;)

    July 7, 2011 at 5:51 pm

    • Haha… Thanks G… Well fortunately the body doesn’t match, although I dare say some might disagree… lol…

Something for you here in my current blog post you funky slug, you! :)

    July 10, 2011 at 12:47 am

    • Why thank you so much Val… So very kind of you… :D

      July 10, 2011 at 8:50 pm

  16. Well. I am laughing out loud and jumping up and down. Your image is wonderful!!! Must send a link to this post to my sister. I warned her of the bloody hand that resided under our beds when we were young and scared the living daylights out of her as there were rules about how far you had to jump away from the bed if you got up at night or the bloody hand would get us! For years we have collected bloody hand items. Thanks for prompting an old memory, Brian! :)

    July 10, 2011 at 6:16 pm

    • Haha.. Well I’m glad it came in useful at least…. but I guess I should apologise to your sister now for reviving old nightmares…

      July 10, 2011 at 8:49 pm

  17. Hi Brian,
I am Leslie’s sister. Job well done in effect, as well as illustrating my childhood nightmares (:

    July 10, 2011 at 8:30 pm

    • LOL… Well you sure do have to love sisters eh, for being so caring and thoughtful when you were younger… lol… I’m sure thoughtful images like that would have been sufficient for me to take a bottle to bed with me each night… ;)

If I’d have known the story beforehand, I’d have incorporated a bed too… ;)

      July 10, 2011 at 8:45 pm

  18. OK, I’m disturbed. Impressed, but disturbed.

    July 11, 2011 at 12:54 pm

    • Disturbed is good I guess… lol… At least I know it’s convincing… ;)

      July 18, 2011 at 8:03 pm

  19. I see you’ve sacrificed your own hand for the photo, an effect that affects me, but I’ll get over it. Seriously, that is a cool shot! :D

    July 12, 2011 at 2:01 am

    • Thanks so much Anne… Glad the effect isn’t permanent… ;)

      July 18, 2011 at 8:05 pm

  20. So how exactly did you make the water red using Photoshop?…or is that a closely guarded secret? It works well though. I once wrote a TV commercial for a motordealer, it was called the March 1’s (new registration) are coming but pronounced ‘Martians’. We had an alien hand made by the same people who do all the doctor who stuff. It was brilliant! It crawled across the screen during the commercial until as nice female hand taps it away. I think one of the TV production people nicked it! Great shot.

    July 13, 2011 at 8:35 pm

    • Ahhhh… Well it’s no secret, but it was quite long winded and convoluted… I do have a tendency to just experiment in photoshop, and once I’ve achieved an effect I can rarely remember the steps taken to get there… Lol… Your advert sounds real interesting….

      July 18, 2011 at 8:09 pm

  21. This is so cool. When I grow up (or maybe it would be best not to?), I want to be able to do this sort of processing. Just because. :)

    July 13, 2011 at 10:10 pm

    • Haha… Thanks Robin…. Yeah there’s plenty things I’d like to be able to do when (if) I ever grow up… ;)

      July 18, 2011 at 8:12 pm

  22. Nicely Done…!! wow,,, you are cool photographer
