The camera never lies… Or does it !?!?…

She Said WHAT !!…

So, one of the aforementioned stories from our recent holiday… Kids can be so embarrassing eh…

We were heading though a small village in the heart of the New Forest, which for reasons I’ve not yet investigated was the “Witch” capital of the New Forest… full of lots of little souvenir shops selling.. well.. witch and wizard and dragon based souvenirs… So I informed my ever so gullible youngest daughter that this was where ALL the witches live….

*Side note*.. Did you know that the word “gullible” doesn’t actually appear in any dictionaries !!..

Well she had a semi freak out until we told her they were good witches… lol… Anywho, we continued through the village and arrived at a Raptor Centre (hence the photos). As we were walking from the car to the entrance, a woman exits the centre and heads for her car…. As we cross paths my youngest points directly at her, and from literally no more than 2 feet away (and at full volume) asks the following question…. “Dad, is SHE a witch ??”….

Ooooops…. Kids… Gotta love em… ;)

Click the pics to view large… They won’t bite… much… :D

  1. These shots are just wonderful!! Love the details, especially in the hawk. Isn’t it amazing how children’s timing for embarassing statements can be just about perfect!! At least she did’nt ask the lady! ;)

    • Indeed… Her timing for embarrassment is impeccable… lol.. She didn’t need to ask the lady either, as the lady was right there… ;) Thanks Ted..

    • Oh kids indeed… Thanks Simone, I thought you’d like these… :)

  5. GORGEOUS bird portraits! Both the lighting and details are amazing.

Ha! Ever thought of writing ‘Funky Slug’s Anecdotal Tales’? You just might want to before your kid’s pen their version of “SH*T My Dad Says”. :-)

    August 17, 2011 at 8:25 pm

    • Haha… You’re right there, as I’m sure it won’t be long before they turn the tables on me… Today, in a public bathroom, she asked my wife why her front bottom was so furry !!!… Apparently a chorus of giggles were heard from the other stalls… Kids !!!… ;)

      August 18, 2011 at 8:50 pm

  6. Wonderful, both of them! As everyone has already said, the detail is stunning!
Perhaps I can cast a spell to make it look like I said that first…
    ‘Accio… early bird!’
Oh well. It was worth a try. And were you serious about that gullible thing? I really want to check, but I’m afraid I’d come across my picture if/when I did! :)

    August 17, 2011 at 9:22 pm

    • And I could have been sneaky and edited the time on your comment… lol… Now that would have been funny… As for the “gullible”…. Hahaha… Well let’s just say I’ve got a few people with that statement in the past… ;)

  7. Oh dear… :P Lovely shots, especially the second.

  8. Great shots! The title goes perfectly with the first one too, such a look on that one.

Kids are pretty hilarious sometimes, things like that you should write down. Too cute

    • Thanks Anna… Glad you felt the link between the shot and the title, as it was the shot the spawned the title that linked to the story… And kids… Well mine have come up with a few priceless moments for sure… Maybe I should start a book… ;)

  9. Hahahahahaha, hilarious! I love the kid already ;)
    Pictures are great, so beautiful!

    August 18, 2011 at 2:25 pm

    • Thanks RR… Guess she can be pretty cute at times… mostly when she’s asleep and can’t embarrass us too much… ;)

  10. aswirly

The images are beautiful. I’m rather partial to raptors :) That is so funny about your daughter. What was the woman’s face like when your daughter called her a witch? hahaha

    August 18, 2011 at 4:10 pm

    • Thanks so much A… Raptors are pretty amazing aren’t they… Glad you like the pics.. :) As for the womans face.. hehe… Well her expression was a mix of sheer and amusement… Priceless though… ;)

  11. Ooooo, I like these. Since Harry Potter, my daughter sees a lot of witches, too.

    August 18, 2011 at 6:42 pm

    • Thanks so much BM… and funnily enough I think Harry Potter has a lot to do with my daughters fascination with witches and wizards… lol…

      August 18, 2011 at 9:03 pm

  12. Haha! That’s funny! It’s good memories to relate.

Those pictures are really amazing, love the detail, which lens did you used?

    August 19, 2011 at 12:31 am

    • Thanks Anne… Oh, and I used my favourite “nature” Canon EF 100-400mm L Series lens for these… It’s a superb piece of glass…

  13. Gorgeous photos!
Haha, and now that mysteriously disappeared post from Saturday makes perfect sense! “You embarrass me, I’ll embarrass you!” LOL

Although… this is NOTHING compared to what Melissa said at a store when she was little. She had a hard time with the “tr” sound, and it came out “f”. Imagibe the looks we got when she spotted a truck, pointed at it and shouted…… !

    August 19, 2011 at 12:40 am

    • Could explain things, but this was the youngest… Saturdays was the oldest… But I’d not be at all surprised if they’re in cahoots with each other… ;)

AND… You’ll be pleased to hear that our youngest ALSO had the “truck” affliction… all the way too and from nursery a few years back… lol…

  14. Gina

Stunning clarity here B. Such beautiful images!! As for those gullible kids…if you’d not teased her she mightn’t have declared the poor unsuspecting woman a witch. Lol. Although you’d have far fewer stories to share so… ;0)

    August 19, 2011 at 4:33 am

    • Thanks so much G.. Maybe teasing her even more should be the order of the day… dontchafink… ;)

      August 19, 2011 at 5:08 pm

  15. Haha that’s a funny kid!
The photos are beautiful. Love them!

    August 19, 2011 at 5:26 pm

    • They certainly do have their moments… Thanks so much YP… :)

  16. Val

Great photos and a gobby kid! ;)

    August 21, 2011 at 3:12 pm

    • She has her utterly innocent moments… lol.. Thanks Val..

      August 22, 2011 at 6:39 pm

  17. It is hard to say anything that hasn’t already been said here (hard to catch up when you’ve been away – but I wouldn’t want to miss any of your stories!) Love the raptor photo – somehow you’ve managed to make him or her look both vicious and cute/fluffy at the same time! :-)

    August 21, 2011 at 8:42 pm

    • LOL.. Glad you enjoy them Karen, and the fluffy shots too.. :)

      August 22, 2011 at 6:41 pm

  18. lol! That’s how children pay back their parents for making things up. It’s usually worth it since making things up is part of the joy of parenting. It’s how we pay them back for temper tantrums and the like.

Beautiful captures of some gorgeous birds.

    August 22, 2011 at 9:14 pm

    • I couldn’t agree more… That’s the main reason for having kids, so that we can tease them… Well, that and getting them to do the dishes… ;)
