Dinner is Served
Dusting off some of my old archived shots here that have never before seen the light of day, and mefinks the shots are not the only thing requiring dusting here…
Honestly, this is not MY kitchen.. which I think is pretty obvious, as naturally there would be more beer and pizza in the fridge… ;)
This is a shot from a long past visit with a good friend, to the highly infamous Potters Manor. You may recall that this isn’t the first time I’ve blogged about this particular derelict manor house, which has unfortunately now been pretty much ransacked judging by other people’s shots I’ve seen recently… If you’re interested in how it looked when this shot was taken, you can see a few old posts here, there, someplace, somewhere else and even over there… ;)
Cannot wait to get out for a spot of urbexing again, and fingers crossed that opportunity will present itself real soon… Watch this space.. :)

I have to admit, this is NOT what I expected to see when I saw the post title! It’s too bad that properties are allowed to get this bad, but it makes for a fascinating photography subject, doesn’t it?!

Sadly…cool treasures like this don’t stay secret for long. Granted I’d not have wanted to share this particular meal but the location was such a cool find!! At least you were fortunate to capture so many great shots before it became “the spot” for trashing and snagging momentos and such. Another great photo B!! :)

GREAT photo, but I don’t think you could make ANYTHING look appetizing in THAT kitchen! LOL

Thanks Michaela… Yeah I’d certainly not want to be eating anything out of that fridge either… It didn’t smell very pleasant.. Mind you, the floor was like one huge sponge cake, which was interesting, and pretty dangerous… lol..

Love it. I think of these shots (when artistically captured, like yours) as ‘elegant decay ‘ Documenting these old properties has become so important. We’ve lost *so* much of our little island’s character to developers that a book by a local photographer has become a gem of a reminder of the old and charming architecture that existed here just in my childhood.
I have *one* very obvious urbex site that I’d like to visit. Unfortunately it’s in the busiest part of town but it’s a traditional haberdashery with old-fashioned, wood-fronted windows (trim painted oxide red!) and the interior has all the old fittings, which were still used until 10-12 years ago, including those weird tube-delivery/jet-like receipt things on the ceiling. I’ve been meaning to ask for official access to photograph before it all goes but lack of confidence prevents me. I hope *someone* (with more hutzpah than me) has thought to capture it before its gone forever.

“Ask for official access !?!”… Oh !!… Oooops… Are we supposed to do that then ??… lol… But then I’m thinking if your possible site is in the busiest part of town, official access may be a wise decision… You should definitely pluck up the courage and ask… unless there IS a back door, or a hole in the fence… ;)
I like your description of ‘elegant decay’ though, and maybe that will help when I’m explaining to the judge and jury exactly why I was there… ;)

you did an amazing job of capturing the ‘feel’ of this place!
Just think of all the history… so many stories here… so very interesting!
(Hahaha… the lack of beer and pizza in that fridge makes me think it could be my kitchen… I need to restock ASAP!)

Thanks so much SIG… I have managed to discover a reasonable amount about its past, but still can’t figure why it has been left to such a fate as this… As for the fridge… ditto… lol…

Ha! This is not your kitchen? Thank heavens! I’ll bet it was a classy kitchen in its day however, Brian. I have enjoyed the photos you have posted at Potters Manor. I like imagining what it was.

So cool that you have such interesting old places to explore.. can’t wait to see what you find next. I’m curious about the light fixture above the table – it almost has a “disco ball” like appearance. Do you have any closer-up shots?

Thanks – that makes it much easier to see. I thought it had a chandelier-like appearance and wondered how something as valuable as that would still be hanging!

Well there were a few other things there that I’d guess were quite valuable… and I have seen chandeliers in some other urbex locations I’ve visited… Trouble is, there’s always someone who just wants to strip the places clean…

Love it! Brian, what a great discovery! But I don’t understand how such a beautiful building like that can be deserted, is there any explication? Was it haunted? … lol…I don’t see any other explanations. ;)

LOL… I’m not really sure why it was abandoned… I think the last owner grew old alone there, and I guess it was too much for her to cope with on her own…

Ditto to what others have said. I, too, love the expression ‘elegant decay’. It still amazes me that someone LIVED there and at one time, it must have been simply breathtaking. If one of the past residents saw it now, I’m sure they would be sad. I know of no such tresures near me.

Lol… Yeah I know, that’s a great expression of Jayne’s huh… I’m amazed too that something like this, that was privately owned, can end up like this… Hospitals and such like I can understand… but for such an impressive manor house !!!… Confusing and saddening for sure…

Oh my, where have you been hiding this piece of Urbex treasure?! Awesome shot Funky. With so much going on, the image really tells a story, of a time before and a time now. I really like this alot. Plus the light fixture hanging from the ceiling is real cool! Your touch of funky processing really makes this special too.

Haha… It’s another one of those that I figured I’d save, and then kinda forgot about… and then looked back on, and thought “nah, not good enough”… lol… Funny really though, as I didn’t do a great deal of processing with this one… Darkened a few spots, and only really added a colour filter to make it a bit less bland… et voila
Anywho.. Thanks A,, It sure is pretty amazing to have seen exactly how much personal stuff was left in this manor house, and to digitally capture some of it for posterity… :)
