The camera never lies… Or does it !?!?…

Barnstorming

I was sorely tempted to convert the previous post to black and white, but at the very last minute I decided against it… This one though just HAD to be black and white… Dontchafink ??… Right from the moment I stood in the cold, windy and muddy field composing the shot, I just KNEW there was only one option on processing… Maybe… More than likely… Probably… I think…

I used to be indecisive… Now I’m not quite so sure !!…

BW works perfect here, I like it very much. And you did good work on the contrast.

Another good ‘un B. Dark and Moody. Was this bright and cheery in its former life? Don’t you just love all the options post processing offers? Artistic freedom at its finest. :)

    • Ta muchly G… I don’t actually recall it ever being bright and cheery though.. It was always just a big barn in a field when I was younger… lol.. Do agree on the processing front though, as you sure can’t beat having your own digital darkroon in a magic box.. :D

  3. Perfect choice for the perfect spot, Brian! How do you proceed to convert in BW? Do you do it in Photoshop, or Lightroom?

    • Thanks so much Anne… I always convert in Photoshop, normally using NIK SilverFX filters… They’re pretty amazing..

  4. I think the black and white really suit this picture, it makes it more mysterious. :)

    • Thanks YP… Yeah I don’t think there was ever any doubt from the moment I took the shot… That said though, the colour version came out better than I had anticipated…

  9. I agree, this one had to be b&w!
Did you see the NIK app? I think it’s called snapseed? I’m itching to buy that one!

    December 12, 2011 at 10:46 am

    • Thanks Michaela… Glad you agree, and I’ve been looking at the app tonight.. Seems very tempting, even if I am trying to not download everything, and failing miserably… lol..

Awesome shot, definitely perfect for black and white, especially with those clouds. I love a good black and white shot like this!

    December 12, 2011 at 7:07 pm

    • Cheers Kieran… The clouds and the light swung it for me before I’d even composed the shot…

      December 12, 2011 at 7:17 pm

  12. Whoa! Well, I’m almost always indecisive, but I know I love what you’ve done here!
Your processing adds so much to the moody atmosphere and isolated feel of an already spectacular shot! And what a sky! You never disappoint, F.S.! Wonderfully done, sir!

    • Thank you so much SIG… That’s extremely kind of you to say so… Glad you like… :D

  13. Yep. Black & white was the perfect way to go. Very dramatic, fantastic image.

  14. Somehow I missed this post – which is weird since I’m a subscriber! I feel so negligent not getting here until now :-O ! Great, creepy feel to this shot. I bet a little Funky Slug magic could add sneaky set of eyes or something like that peeking around the corner, LOL.

  15. Very cool shot… just needs Freddie Krueger… ;-)

    December 19, 2011 at 10:42 pm

  16. Awesome! Love the composition, the POV, and the subject. Great b and w :)

  17. I know nothing of photography but black and white is perfect, here. Color would only destroy the effect oflonely old barn and timeless sky. Good one, Brian.

  18. Really lovely pictures… love B/W composition… wow….

    January 10, 2012 at 8:43 am

  19. Awesome! Definitely black and white. Maybe in colour, but then it had to be more of an eveningshot, I think.
