The camera never lies… Or does it !?!?…

iMazing

So yesterday I managed to blow the dust off, and get out with my camera for the first time this year… and very quickly realise the reason why I HAVEN’T  been out with my camera this year… It was COLD !!..

Took this one with my real camera, but also decided to test the capabilities of my iPhone too while my blood was slowly crystallizing… and I have to confess, for a camera phone it’s pretty iMazing to say the least… I’ve been impressed with it already on a number of occasions, but last nights picture almost made me put my real camera away !!.. Only almost though, as it will never compete with a Canon obviously.. :)

If you’re on Instagram, then you can find it / me by searching for funkyslug… Or here’s a link to it for those who aren’t on Instagram… http://instagr.am/p/j-hff/

  1. Well it’s about d*amn TIME you post something new! :-)
It’s absolutely beautiful ♥ BUT, the iPnone picture (as amazing as it is) doesn’t come close to this one (which wouldn’t come close to one taken with a Nikon! ;-) )

    • Something “new”… Don’t you just mean “something”… lol… The iPhone picture looks a lot better on the phone itself, but considering the light was fading, and it was handheld too… Not bad eh… The differences would have been marginal were I using a Nikon though… lol… ;)

      January 23, 2012 at 7:30 pm

      • Yes, “something”… ANYTHING!! Any longer, and I may have had to start begging you to show off your photos ;-)
Marginal, yes, but still better with a Nikon, that’s the important part ;-)

        • And you’re right, the iPhone photos (and iPad ;-) ) do look amazing on a smaller screen.

          January 23, 2012 at 9:21 pm

        • No no… Nikon / iPhone is marginal…. lol… Not Canon / Nikon… No competition there… Canon every time… ;)

  2. This is a scene to remember.

    • Thanks so much… It sure was nice.. but cold…

  3. Beautiful HDR. Love the clouds!

  4. So glad you decided to get out and to post again! Gorgeous color – the iPhone shot is pretty amazing too. I wonder if the iPod’s camera is the same; I haven’t put it to much of a test.
PS I’ll back you up against Michaela in the Canon vs Nikon game! ;-)

    • Karen, I’m afraid Texas is missing those gorgeous sunsets…

      January 23, 2012 at 9:23 pm

    • Thanks Karen, and I’m not sure when compared to the 4S, as I know they upped the capabilities of that camera… You gotta try it though to see… :)

Sweet! Pretty sure it was worth a few ounces of crystallized plasma and such to snag this one B. It’s a beauty!! :)

    • Apparently I have plenty more G, so no worries there once it had defrosted… Thanks G.. :D

Awesome shot! I know what you mean about the cold, pretty chilly up here in Edinburgh. I had a look at the Instagram iPhone shot as well, pretty impressive! I have a 3GS, might just start using Instagram, thanks for putting me onto it.

    January 23, 2012 at 9:36 pm

    • It’s a great little app Kieran, and there are some great photo editing apps out there too…

  7. Lovely shot! I’m sure I’ve missed a lot of opportunities this season for outdoor shots, but I’m not really into the whole freezing thing either lol

    January 23, 2012 at 11:27 pm

    • Thanks Eden, fortunately I’ve not missed too many, but probably more than I should have…

  10. As a Nikon-owning friend said to me recently, “Weren’t we silly to buy DSLRs? We should have just bought iPhones instead!”

    January 24, 2012 at 6:45 am

    • Haha… I’m saying noting… other than if your friend had a Canon… lol.. .I’m messing of course, but as good as the iPhone is, it will never replace my Canon… It’s an exceptional point and shoot though.. :)

  11. Chloe

i did start to wonder if you’d traded your camera for your phone & instagram ;)

superb photograph, a great way to start the new year

    January 24, 2012 at 10:57 pm

    • Haha… Well not quite, although it is a slightly more convenient pastime… But it won’t replace my real camera… thanks Chloe.. :)

      January 25, 2012 at 9:15 pm

  12. Wonderful image, Bri, BUT sending you a virtual hand slap for promoting iPhone photography! Shame on you!

The iPhone image doesn’t come close to what a DSLR can do. Too bad the general public now thinks they all can be a photographer… *sigh*

    January 25, 2012 at 4:46 pm

    • LOL… Maybe there’s a method to my madness…. in convincing the majority that they don’t need a real camera, thus allowing our photography to stand out even more… ;)

      January 25, 2012 at 9:17 pm

  13. Pretty amazing, indeed! I recently had an iPhone and I was amaze of the quality of the pictures. :)

I had you as my friend in Instagram. :D

    January 25, 2012 at 11:19 pm

    • Thanks so much Anne.. Good to see you on Instagram too.. :)

  14. I love my Canon – and don’t miss an iphone ;-)
This is a nice shot – i love that sky!

    January 25, 2012 at 11:58 pm

    • Yeah it won’t replace it that’s for sure, but I do love the convenience of always having it with me.

      February 1, 2012 at 9:23 pm

  15. Obviously, even an Apple product can’t compete with a Canon :)

    January 26, 2012 at 8:10 am

    • You’re right there.. lol.. as impressive as it is, it’s not THAT good.. :)

      February 1, 2012 at 10:51 pm

  16. No dust within a thousand miles of this shot, F.S… spectacular!
I’ve got to ‘get me’ an iPhone at some point…
I’ve seen some incredible pieces from them (and it would be so nice to have a camera like that pretty much ‘always with you’, too…)
    :)

    • The iPhone is one of the best things I’ve bought since my Canon SIG… Very impressed with it after being sadly disappointed with an HTC for a couple of years..

      February 1, 2012 at 10:52 pm

  17. Stunning capture, well worth the frostbite. :)

    January 26, 2012 at 8:10 pm

    • Thanks Robin… I was happy I went out… :)

      February 1, 2012 at 10:55 pm

  18. Very nicely executed. I like the delicately applied HDR here. Well done.
