The camera never lies… Or does it !?!?…

Midnight Meanderings

It’s fair to say that I DO love a spot of night photography… All I wish is that night time wasn’t so darn late at night, when it’s all dark and stuff !!.. If nights weren’t so late, and mornings weren’t so early, I’d be a happy bunny mefinks..

This is Appley Tower on the Isle of Wight. The tower itself wasn’t lit unfortunately, so the shot itself had to be a 2 minute exposure to make best use of a few scattered street lights along the promenade behind me. Way off on the horizon you can also see another landmark from a previous vacation, which is the Spinnaker Tower with the ever so slightly impressive but disconcerting view..

  1. And a fine night shot it is B! Although I fear this whole “late at night” issue may be a complaint normally reserved for the…er…*cough* elderly. :D

    • Well, I guess that might explain a few things then, as in why I’ve never seen any night shots from you.. LOL.. Hey!!, you started it.. ;P

      Oh, and thanks G.. :D

  2. I have no issue with late nights…it’s the early mornings I detest! ;-)

Does the tower really lean like that or is that a bit of lens distortion? The two minute exposure certainly lit things up!

    • Actually, I much prefer late nights too. Lol. It’s purely the fact there tends to be a few too many “inquisitive” people around who are slightly under the influence that puts me off… And no, the tower doesn’t lean. Lol. That’s just the result of having to use a 10mm wide angle lens to get it all in. Thanks Tracy. :)

  3. Very cool shot. Your night photography is awesome. I agree it would be great if nights weren’t so late and mornings weren’t so early!
PS – I’ve got a new photo hunt up that could be right up your alley! :-)

    • Thanks so much Karen.. It would also be real nice if there were more interesting places like this to shoot too.. Ah well.. :)

  4. I know what you mean about too early or too late!! I can’t seem to get myself out of bed early enough on my days off to get out and shoot anything in the sunrise, and the nights have become too dangerous around here (I wouldn’t want to go out with my camera gear alone at night). You have done a beautiful job with this photo – night shots have always been a favorite of mine!

    • Yeah, sunrises are definitely WAY too early for me this time of year.. and nights risky too.. I always take the bare minimum with me, and usually take my daughter along too… If nothing else she might make a good human shield.. ;)

Perhaps you should live somewhere that enjoys twilight most of the day, like… Iceland! Would be pretty cool to go there I think. Really cool night shot of this tower Funky. Are there apples in Appley tower?

    • Oh now Iceland has always been on my list of places to visit. Funnily enough, the rest of the family… NOT so keen. Lol. As for the apples.. lol.. Imagine the size of the cobbler then.. Thanks A.. :)

  6. You always find the most beautiful locations for photos, and this is no exception (I definitely live / vacation in the wrong part of the world!).
Love the tones here, and the bright lights across the water.
Early mornings have never been a problem for me, and lately neither are late nights….just don’t have any interesting places to take the camera to.

    • Lol… Mefinks you’re just looking in the wrong places… Anything looks more interesting at night… mostly… :)

  7. It’s a beautiful night shot. :)

I’m okay with early mornings, but can’t seem to make it through the late nights. I blame the early mornings for that. It has nothing whatsoever to do with age…

    • Uh huh… I’m saying nuffin’… Lol… Thanks Robin.. :)

  8. I like the contrast in color between the “blue-hour-sky” and the warm yellow/brown colors…

    • Thanks so much Truels… Have to admit that was one thing that really appealed to me too..
